A basement cafe with sufficient natural lighting to take glamorous OOTD and food of the day!

It should be an easy target for their welcoming green concrete frame.

They have a simple stairway leading to their cafe entrance, and you’ll find their signature 4-wheel drive parked in their cafe garden.

This cafe had its first soft opening at the end of April 2022, but its business had been around longer. In 2021, they drove around Johor Bahru in their 4-wheel drive selling freshly brewed coffee and their signature sourdough bagels!

Their loyal customers would recommend their sourdough and bagel – definitely a great choice to start your day.

Their black coffee is slightly sour so if that is not your kick, order a cup of their white coffee to balance out the sourness with milk.

Besides bakeries and sandwiches, they have a few main courses, like Duck Confit and Paella, to fit your appetite.

Inside the cafe, you can visually separate the interior into 2 sections – a natural lighting side and the artificial lighting side (which is basically the side of a room with more lights on).

There are quite some plants inside the cafe, so use them as backdrops for your food and beverages to cover up the unnecessary presence of strangers in your photo.

There is even a full-body mirror on the artificial lighting side to take OOTD or photos. But, in our humble opinion, this requires a little bit of… courage because all eyes may be on you as you swirl and turn for the right angles.

If you sweep across this area during your trip, we recommend coming here early in the morning. So, enjoying your quiet morning here will be the calm before the beginning of your journey!

As more cafes spring up in Johor Bahru like mushrooms, this right here causes quite the stir, especially among foodie and aesthetic cravers.

Keijometo is a well-known industrial theme cafe that serves Japanese food. Rather than coffee, they pride themselves on the varieties of matcha served. You can find their matcha profile at the end of their menu.

For a cafe operating since March 2022, it has received much attention from the locals and patrons afar, all due to its unique design and meal.

Keijometo has a unique bare-concrete exterior and an interior that resembles an art gallery. A mini paragon for photographers and those who appreciate art.

The main reason anyone visits a cafe is either for their drinks or food. Among their Donburi (Japanese rice bowl dish) section, we recommend the first one on their list – Salmon Ochazuke, smoked salmon paired with onigiri (Japanese rice balls) on a plate of yuri matcha stock.

If you are not a rice person, you can glance over their Sando (sandwich) and Udon sections. There is also a dedicated Sweet section to fix your cravings.

There are a few coffee selections, but the main highlight is their matcha. If you would like to try pure matcha rather than specialty matcha drinks, check out their matcha profile section at the end of the menu. They even have metrics like the bitterness and smoothness percentage stated before choosing the matcha you want.

This cafe does not take reservations (as stated in their Insta bio). So, we recommend visiting during the weekdays or getting there as early as possible to secure a table.

Before visiting their business, we highly encourage you to read their pinned stories, namely Notice and Parking, to know some of the dos and don’ts.

In addition, they have pinned their menu in the pinned Menu story so you can make some early decisions before your arrival!

If you visited Johor Bahru’s famous heritage lane, Tan Hiok Nee Street (Jalan Tan Hiok Nee), you could have walked by this cafe.

If not, maybe you never had a chance to visit this side of the cultural street or simply overlooked its presence.

Unlike The Lightwood by MUES and Keijometo mentioned above, this aesthetic cafe in Johor Bahru has been around for quite some time.

Since it is located in the busy streets, you can expect quite the crowd here. Therefore, if possible, avoid visiting this cafe during peak brunch or lunch hours!

The storefront is full of plants, and it should be recognizable thanks to its big ‘SOURDOUGH’ sign hanging on its front.

Just the front store itself, you can take several Instagrammable photos. In addition, there is a look-through circular window displaying their doughs and pastries of the day.

Walking into this cafe in Johor Bahru feels like walking into a small garden with a cozy vibe. The ground floor might not have that many seats because it’s pretty packed, but you can always take the stairs up to the higher floor for more seats.

We recommend their Mexican Breakfast from their main course selection to spice up your day (literally) or Loaded Homemade Hummus. Overall, they have a healthy menu that does not lose quality regarding flavor and taste.

Their croissant and Country Sourdough Loaf are the local favorites. In other words, they ran out fast. So if you have your eyes on ’em, make sure you put in your order first before someone else does. Don’t walk, RUN!

They sell different cakes every day. If you happen to visit when this cake is available, we would suggest a slice of the customer’s favorite Earl Gray Cake.

Pair any of their pastries with a cup of coffee and enjoy the wonderful botanic ambiance. It’s undoubtedly a quaint, picturesque place to visit in JB.

Hopefully, these 3 aesthetic Johor Bahru cafes are to your liking. But, more importantly, it’s about the quality time spent during a trip that brings out the best of us for the most incredible memories.

Instead of hailing cabs and risking unreasonable charges to sour your memory in Malaysia, we recommend renting a car with Gem Car Rental for exceptional customer service experience and cost-effective option.
